I washed and dried them first in a regular wash and they came out beautifully. Great purchase.These are so soft! The color is as pictured, more of a sage green than an emerald green. It feels like it is made out of woven yarn (the plush type) -- this sort of cheapens the look and I was concerned about snagging, but I've had these for 2 months and so far no issues. When I first pulled them out of the package there was a lot of loose material but after I shook them out I've had no problems with shedding. The base fabric is not thick at all, but because the yarn is so plush/tightly woven, you can't see through it at all (I have striped grey pillows in them and you can't tell). I was having a really hard time finding soft pillow covers with a green and white pattern, at a reasonable price.
